Alto Turia CDK 432 mm Telescope
Aras de los Olmos, Valencia (46179)
Spain
The Alto Turia Astronomical Observatory (CAAT), managed by the Valencian Astronomy Association in Aras de los Olmos, promotes research, education, and outreach in astronomy. This semi-professional observatory, with telescopes up to 0.5 meters and specialized viewing areas, is located at 1,280 meters altitude, providing optimal observation conditions. Since 1998, it has been a regional reference.
Descripción
The 432 mm Corrected Dall-Kirkham (CDK) Telescope is a high-end instrument specifically designed to deliver high-quality astronomical images across the entire field of view. Its optical design combines an ellipsoidal primary mirror, a spherical secondary mirror, and a set of corrective lenses that effectively eliminate aberrations such as coma, astigmatism, and field curvature. The result is a flat, perfectly corrected field, ideal for taking full advantage of modern large-format CCD and CMOS sensors.
With a 432 mm (17-inch) aperture and a focal ratio close to f/6.8, this telescope offers a perfect balance between light-gathering power, resolution, and imaging speed. Thanks to this configuration, it is possible to capture in detail deep-sky objects, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies with shorter exposure times and exceptional image quality.
One of its strengths is the ease of collimation. Unlike other designs such as the Ritchey-Chrétien, the CDK incorporates a spherical secondary mirror, which is much more forgiving during alignment, making it an efficient tool for both professional use and advanced amateur observatories.
This telescope is not only used for high-precision astrophotography but also in collaborative research programs and public outreach, allowing stunning and sharp images of the universe to be shared. Its versatility and reliability have made it a benchmark among modern advanced telescopes.
