e-EyE Observatory (Entre Encinas y Estrellas)
Sobre "e-EyE Observatory (Entre Encinas y Estrellas)"
The e-EyE Astronomical Observatory (Entre Encinas y Estrellas) is located in Fregenal de la Sierra, in the heart of the Extremaduran dehesa, surrounded by a unique natural landscape and under one of the cleanest and darkest skies of the Iberian Peninsula. This site, recognized as a Starlight destination, offers more than two hundred clear nights per year, ensuring optimal conditions for sky observation.
What makes this observatory special is the perfect combination of advanced scientific infrastructure and an environment that invites visitors to enjoy astronomy in all its forms. Among its facilities, the famous R2-D2-shaped dome stands out, inspired by the iconic Star Wars droid. This distinctive structure houses a powerful telescope and has become an emblem of the complex, attracting both enthusiasts and curious visitors who see it as a gateway to the universe.
Alongside the dome, the observatory features a network of robotized observation modules with sliding roofs. These spaces, designed to host large-format telescopes, are fully automated: equipped with safety systems that close the roof in case of rain or power failure, fiber-optic connectivity, and complete remote control. Thanks to this, astronomers and institutions from different countries can operate their equipment from anywhere in the world, without the need to be physically present.
This combination of tradition and innovation makes e-EyE a truly unique place. On one hand, it offers astronomical outreach experiences that spark the curiosity of the general public; on the other, it provides the scientific community and the most demanding astrophotographers with a modern and reliable infrastructure, tailored to the needs of contemporary astronomy.
The result is an observatory that not only looks up at the sky but also connects people from all over the world with the passion of exploring the universe. e-EyE is science, it is technology, but it is also magic: the magic of unveiling the secrets of the cosmos under an incomparable starry sky.
