Agrupación Astronómica de Madrid

The Agrupación Astronómica de Madrid (AAM) is a non-profit organisation recognised as being of public interest, whose main purpose is the study and public outreach of astronomy and related sciences. It was founded in 1974, when a group of university students from the Faculty of Physical Sciences decided to set up an association for amateur astronomers, something that did not yet exist in Madrid. From an initial dozen members it has grown to bring together hundreds of people from different professions and backgrounds, united by a shared interest in the universe; training new members remains the foundation of its work. Its activities include lectures, astronomy courses, observing trips and public observing sessions with telescopes, as well as work at the Bonilla Observatory. Members wishing to go deeper into a particular subject organise themselves into working groups that meet regularly: astrobiology, astrophotography, dark sky, deep sky, cosmology, spectroscopy, double stars, photometry, study group, heliophysics, introduction to observing, weekday observing and lunar observation. Their fields of work cover the Sun, the Moon, the planets, novae and supernovae, spectroscopy, photometry and astrophotography. The AAM is a member of the Spanish Federation of Astronomical Associations (F.A.A.E.).
